frank castle is not the classical hero, he is more like "karma" getting at you. The guy is not mentally sane, but that is not being fair, most heroes are not mentally sane either , is just that castle has not moral limits, he wants punish people who crossed extremes lines, mostly the ones that are responsable of hurts other. There is a line in one of his comics that give you a good idea of how he sees criminals and punishment regarding moral: when you find a dog with rabies, you can not blame the dog , the dog is ill, but that does not mean that you do not have to put down the dog. you agree with him or not, but castle is what he is , a punisher not a savior.

The only reason he's a villain is because everybody takes Garth Ennis run as being the alright or definitive Punisher when his Punisher is literally just a homicidal genocidal maniac. That just wants to kill everyone. Because he has some War / PTSD issues he hasn't gone but if you read other Punisher stories is truly a good person. A lot of Punisher runs in the 80s and 90s before Garth Ennis like Mike Baron and Steven Granthe was truly a good character but saw that some people were irredeemable and needed to die But ultimately he tried to save everyone he would sacrifice himself to save everyone. He would go out of his way to save people. My favorite Punisher story is his first ever origin known as Punisher Year One in 1994 which is the main comic that for Punisher 2004 movie is based off you will completely understand who the Punisher truly is why he does what he does and why he is not a Villain Like Modern Marvel and several authors want to make him especially Garth Ennis which has taken this good guy who may have had some bath methods to a general genocidal Maniac who will torture a person in front of his Wife and Kids just because. People usually say “the story in SEED and SD suck but I’m just here for the action” but like even then the show doesn’t really deliver. If you wanna just watch flashy mech fights your better off watching 00, IBO, Unicorn, or hell even one of the late 90s shows. The animation in the cosmic era has aged horribly, a lot early 00s anime look worse then what was in the 90s and even 80s. The reused animation and over reliance on beam spam (cause it’s cheaper) is especially laughable

The tragedy of this movie is that it mainly deals with some of Kira's trauma from the end of SEED, but does it four years too late. I thought we were going to get this in Destiny, but nadda. I think that the the material for a good story is there, but it needed more fleshing out and probably a 12 to 13 episode OVA (about 22 minutes per ep) instead of a movie. There's some real serious stuff in there that is just missed. Kira's Savior complex? The root of this is his recurring failure to save people, the first being when Yzak shoots the civilian shuttle, and the second where Rau brutally murders Flay out of sheer spite. Losing your girlfriend like that (even if she was his ex at the point) in that manner would've messed him up and affect his relationships going forward. But that doesn't get the fleshing out it deserves and instead we have Athrun's horny thoughts of Cagalli and Lacus in that..... really weird space playmate getup and the absurdity of the Mighty Strike Freedom. Cool upgrade, not going to lie, but..... come on. The only victory that ever felt "earned" was the end of SEED, and partially because that series was rivaling Zeta and Victory in terms of being a veritable blood bath (until they retconned Mu's death; after that no legacy characters could die).

As a former Marine and soon to be police officer it isn’t that cops/military are held at a low standard in term of the argument. It’s that neither a marine or cops should wish to emulate a man who conducts vigilante justice. It spits on the face of what those institutions are about.

Ultimate Coordinator just means that he is a prefect customized coordinator out of the artificial womb with no mother influence, and nothing else. He is not the strongest or the best. In the audio drama cd, he said himself, he is in school with all the second gen coordinators that are much smarter than he is, so he became very passive and he always needs Athrun to help with his homework. He is quick in software especially with when he left the coordinators school and attend the Orb school with naturals.

Is the punisher a villain? I feel like that is too simple a question. The one think I can say is that, in no uncertain terms, is that frank is not a good guy or a hero. There is a reason we have laws and rules as a society. People fuck up in life. Sometimes they fuck up hard. But there is such a thing a redemption and learning to be better. Frank doesn’t believe in that. To him, a spad is a spad. Circumstances don’t matter, potential doesn’t matter, intent doesn’t matter. There can be no rehabilitation, no justice, no grey area. Just kill, kill, kill. People love to say things like Frank “gets shit done”, but all he is a lunatic with a gun looking for a reason to use it. And in the end, all he’ll end up doing is making more victims like himself.

I think he’s an insane psycho path who enjoys killing but uses a moral reason to do it so you can’t exactly say he’s a villain and anti-hero fits more. He can be antagonistic towards heroes sometimes but that’s more about the morals on what they do with the crime they stop. Hence why when cap attacked him in civil war for blowing away a bunch of villains who were trying to help, he didn’t fight back cause he respects the good the heroes do.

Tbf, there's a what if comic where he kills the marvel universe. Kind of displays the fact that he could in fact become a villain if given the right motivations. But because of the way he's actually written, Frank wouldn't be such thing. I can see how people may seem has a villain, but its oversimplification of who he really is. While indeed, the older comics has describe Frank as a solider simply waiting for another war, that even coming back to his family, he isn't in it as some other media or later comics have touch upon. Seeing what happen to his family gave him the cause to fight another war, one that is a long, enduring road, that has changed and give a newer sense of meaning to Frank. I do believe, that if it was a hero that killed his family, then Frank would become a villain, but again, that didn't happen, therefore he becomes a straight antihero character. Sadly, there hasn't been a punisher comic in a long time that dance between the mentality of Frank castle where he isn't a hero a complete hero, but not a complete villain, and I don't think there will be for some time. I personally feel the writers lost their guts to tell such stories as that, and go to the more simple narratives that assassinate's these characters moral, personality, and history as a whole.

He’s definitely not a villain, although he very well may be psychotic. It’s heavily implied that he enjoys killing and is happy for the excuses (expect in his very early issues). I think he’s a good person, just heavily misguided and slightly psychotic. He really does enjoy killing but he also had morals and would never kill anyone innocent.

The sheer amount of provably innocent people he murders on a disturbingly common basis says otherwise. Remember he was literally introduced into comics murdering a street full of innocent people to murder one jaywalker.

Completely agree with everything you said, punisher is a soldier who takes orders from himself, instead of a higher up. How violent he is just shows how much he loved his family, not that he’s a serial killer.

Also, don't forget how in issue #63 of Punisher Max, Frank was ready to kill himself when he thought that he killed a little girl. This goes to show that, if he ever thinks that he crossed the line and brakes his code, then Frank thinks he's no better than the scum he kills, and how he must punish himself. Sure, Frank kills mobsters, drug dealers, rapists and any other scum in NYC, but he wouldn't even go as far as to murder a little girl. Especially not after what happened with his family. Frank is one of the few Marvel characters I really like, and it's because of scenes like that.

Frank Castle is an anti hero vigilante. He would not consider himself a hero. He is the Punisher. He works outside of the rule of law. It is not appropriate for the police to use this symbol because it is not the police's job to punish criminals. They are not judge, jury and executioner. Frank Castle is an outlaw. When the police start acting like outlaws. Let's call tyranny.

My intro to anime was the was the last episode of the OVA series when I was 4. It really had me hooked on anime as a kid, and it was the first time I ever saw animated nudity 😂.

I mean… I liked it. About my only complaint is that it’s short and rushes a bunch towards the end. As a consequence, we really don’t get to know some of the side characters all that well. Otherwise, pretty good serious. Totally get where people are coming from critically, though.

Literally the only likable protagonist in the cosmic era is Lowe Guele, and that’s because he isn’t a pretentious, whiny dork. He’s just a guy who’s good at machines and lucked out in finding a kickass mobile suit.
